WEIHNACHTSSHOW der Staatsoperette Dresden
The Dresden State Operetta is taking the city’s famed Striezelmarkt on stage this holiday season in a wholesome and entertaining production: its first ever Christmas show. What happens at night at the Christmas fair when all the booths are shut down, when the vendors and visitors are all at home, snugly tucked into bed? That’s when the snowmen, chimney sweeps and Santa Clauses you see there in the daytime have their own little party at night! At least that’s what one young couple discovers, straying into the closed-down Striezelmarkt in the dark of night and stumbling into an incredible adventure. The story culminates in a crazy kidnapping, followed by a successful escape and happy ending.
The show’s musical repertoire delves into the world of movies and musicals. Alongside classic Christmas hits such as “Frosty the Snowman,” “Winter Wonderland” and “Christmas Back Home” performed by Veronica Fischer, the evening includes numbers from movies and musicals like “Beauty and the Beast,” “Mary Poppins,” “Annie Get Your Gun” and “Scrooge” by Lesslie Bricusse. And of course it wouldn’t be Christmas without favorites like “Every Year Again,” “Merry Christmas Everywhere” and “Silent Night.” The programme is rounded off by the music of Berlin composer Patrick Lange, specially written for the Dresden State Operetta.
